Our History

Dahlia FlowersFounded in 2003, as The Dahlia Partnership, with the knowledge that eating disorders are the most serious and complex of all mental illness with the highest fatality rate of all mental illnesses. One out of every ten people will struggle with an eating disorder during the course of their lifetime and over 575,000 Missourians will suffer from this devastating illness. As a 501© not for profit organization, The Dahlia Partnership began its mission to bring understanding, compassion and hope to the fight against eating disorders.

In 2009, The Dahlia Partnership became a network member of NEDA (National Eating Disorders Association) to further strengthen the association with the many issues faced by those suffering and their families.

In 2012, The Dahlia Partnership became the Missouri Eating Disorders Association (MOEDA) with an expanded board and renewed vision on how to impact the issues surrounding eating disorders.  As The Missouri Eating Disorders Association (MOEDA) the revised mission became to bring hope, compassion and education to the fight against eating disorders.

In 2013, MOEDA launched a school curriculum (Feed the Facts, Eating Disorders Awareness Program) to educate coaches, nurses and teachers about the serious nature of eating disorders. The curriculum evolved to include a student-based program designed to supplement middle and high-school health classes. In 2016-17 school year MOEDA presented the “Feed The Facts” to 4,000 middle and high school students in 17 schools throughout the St. Louis area. The program has expanded and is now part of the health class curriculum in over 30 private and public schools, reaching over 10,000 students per school year throughout the St. Louis area. Due to the COVID pandemic the curriculum pivoted to a virtual format to accommodate the schools during the 2020/2021 school year. For the 2021/2022 school year we will be offering FTF virtually statewide and both virtually and in person throughout the St. Louis area.
