FEED THE FACTS - MEET THE PRESENTERS

Meet the "Feed The Facts" Education Presenters

The Feed The Facts Education Presenters are passionate and dedicated individuals who have made it a priority to help MOEDA educate students, school professionals, parents and the community about eating disorders. Each presenter undergoes rigorous training prior to becoming an education presenter.

The education presenters have a diverse background; some are eating disorder professionals, others have had a loved one or friend suffer from an eating disorder and many are in recovery or recovered. But, what these education presenters all have in common is the commitment to fighting eating disorders, educating communities and saving lives.

Meet Sarah Acselrod

Sarah is the MOEDA Education Coordinator and was previously a presenter and volunteer with MOEDA.  "I’m really excited to take on my new role as Education Coordinator and I look forward to working with you all. I know this semester is going to look differently than what we’re used to but I’m confident that we’re able to adapt and continue on our mission of education! "  She is a student at Washington University in St Louis where she majors in Anthropology: Global Health and the Environment and has minors in Spanish and Biology. Sarah has an interest in medicine and public health, how they interact with society, and how that applies to eating disorders. “Eating disorder education was something that was completely missing from my middle and high school health classes so I’m really glad to be a part of Feed The Facts, where we’re able to help current students get the knowledge and skills they need to help themselves and others.”

Meet Ali Fields

Ali is the previous Education Coordinator for the Missouri Eating Disorder Association. As an attorney and eating disorder survivor, she is a passionate advocate for eating disorder awareness, education and prevention. Ali enjoys writing about issues related to eating disorders, recovery, weight bias, fatphobia and body image on her blog: www.roadtorecovered.com. She also recently became a Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach through the Carolyn Costin Institute (CCI). She and her partner, Steve, have two sons who light up their life.

“It is an honor to be part of the Feed the Facts (FTF) team. By sharing my story through the compassionate, holistic and evidence based FTF curriculum, I uncovered the power and potency of my voice. I have also witnessed the power and potency of other voices as well. Our voices matter. We are not alone. Through our voices and experiences, we can Fight Eating Disorders, Educate Communities and Save Lives!”

Meet Melody Miller

Melody Miller is the current MOEDA Board President, and has been a trained, “Feed the Facts” presenter since January 2016. When she retired from her previous life as an HR Director, Melody knew she wanted to increase awareness about eating disorders. Melody’s eating disorders education and experience began when her daughter, Amanda, developed anorexia while in college at Mizzou. Reading books by leaders in the field, following podcasts related to HAES (Health at Every Size), intuitive eating, and body kindness, and participating in family therapy sessions with Amanda have helped broaden Melody’s knowledge and furthered her commitment to advocating for eating disorders awareness.

“Every time I present “Feed the Facts” to students, I know I’ve given them information that could potentially save their life, or that of a friend or family member. There is no better feeling than that.”

Meet Amanda Sloan

Amanda is a volunteer with the Missouri Eating Disorder Association. She has been doing Outreach for eating disorder treatment programs for 4 years and is passionate about bringing education, understanding, and awareness to our community. She believes this is vital in being able to diagnose and treat an eating disorder at the onset so that individuals and their families have the opportunity to thrive. Amanda is an advocate for body positivity and hopes that her efforts reduce shame and encourage freedom around body image. Amanda's passions are made possible by the loving support of her husband, Nathan, and their two daughters.

"I am proud to be apart of the mission and team of the Feed the Facts program. There is much to be done still and it starts with education. The more awareness we create, the more lives we are able to save. It's not an easy topic to talk about, but it is a necessary one. I'm grateful for MOEDA and all they are doing in our community to help save the lives of those individuals struggling in secret. It is my hope that we are meeting them where they're at and are able to encourage them toward the first step into recovery."
